Kite Making

The bright sparks kite
Yesterday the bright sparks made a kite for our reading follow up.
First we got the supplies from Gary which was:

2 pieces of wood
Bubble wrap
Then gary put a deep notch in each of the pieces of wood. Then we put the two pieces of wood together and tied them with a piece of string.
Next we cut another piece of string and made a diamond shape with the wood. Then we secured the string at the top of the diamond shape.Next we cut the frame to a diamond shape of bubble wrap. We taped the bubble wrap diamond to the frame. Lastly we used the rest of the bubble wrap as bows.
Gary helped us build the frame  and the face. We got Gary to put his fishing rod on then we tried to fly it  but it didn't work because there was not enough wind. we only had two successful flights and it stayed in the air only a few seconds. This is our most successful one…

Welcome to Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4!! This term is a really busy one - with lots of testing happening for reports, practicing for athletics and auditions / singing practices for the end of year performance. It was great to see everyone enjoyed the break. Dont forget that students need to have a hat next week to be able to play out on the fields or playground.

Well done to everyone for participating in the Karaka Syndicate Cross-country event today! The sunshine turned up after weeks of rain so fortunately the course wasn't too muddy. Well done to

Week 5

This week we enjoyed another session with the Gymsport crew and spent time trying a range of activities. It is great to see all the students gaining confidence trying these new things and enjoying themselves in the process :)

On Friday Karaka Syndicate will be hosting the school assembly. This will be a great opportunity for our students to show some of the work that they have been busy doing this term. We will also be performing the "Try Everything" song. Hopefully see you all there :)

This week we were really lucky to have the NED show visit Waiau Pa School. NED sounds for Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best! It was a fantastic show filled with balloon tricks, yoyo tricks and magic. Not only were all the students entertained but they really grasped NED's message. The NED show is made possible through the sale of yoyo's. Yoyo's will be on sale at Waiau Pa school next week and all the proceeds will allow for another school to receive the show.

We are getting into the swing of the term and it has been really busy with gymnastics and blow up soccer happening in the past 2 weeks. Many students are also beginning to prepare themselves for Calf Club and many now have animals to care for. Please ensure that you have handed your entry form into the office if you are going to be entering an animal, project or garden this year.

What's on the menu

We have been really fortunate to begin this term with two sessions at the What's on the Menu programme. Last week our kitchen group baked a delicious batch of beetroot cupcakes while our garden group weeded the garden and planted a range of vegetables.

This week the garden group harvested some red cabbage, celery and broccoli so that the kitchen group could prepare a vegetable pasta for us to enjoy. Then the students worked hard to restuff, sew and refresh the garden scarecrow.

We had a great time working in the kitchen and garden and we are very grateful to our wonderful volunteers who provide this opportunity for us.
